Hotel Yas
The selection of our project site in Tehran’s Jordan neighborhood was a result of merging two adjacent plots, a decision deeply intertwined with the building’s overall form. To maximize the depth of natural illumination, we dedicated the northern part of the site to daylighting. However, in our massing concept, we took an innovative approach by seamlessly integrating the rear courtyard with the southern courtyard. This design move created a spatial continuum and allowed us to position the entrance at the same level and benefit from an equally rich source of natural light.
The introduction of a central courtyard, adjacent to the entrance courtyard, not only ensures optimal illumination for all units but also encourages enhanced interaction with the ground floor of the building. This approach, in essence, extends the building’s connection to the surrounding street, offering a vibrant public space within the street corridor.
On the ground floor, alongside the courtyards and entrance area, we incorporated a twenty-four/seven café. This café serves as a dynamic, city-facing space that not only interacts directly with the urban environment but also provides continuous security and a lively atmosphere for hotel residents.
With the client’s vision of creating fully-equipped residential units for medium-term stays, we designed sixty-square-meter units featuring two bedrooms, a living area, and a kitchen. To enhance the experience of each unit, we included a balcony on each floor, offering panoramic views and access to open spaces.
Moreover, our selection of massing geometry and articulation was driven by a desire to evoke a sense of “homeliness” and dwelling. The central rotated square within the building acts as a communal gathering point for all residents. The facade design, characterized by lines reminiscent of children’s drawings of houses, adds a whimsical touch to the structure.
This hotel project, executed in 2023 for Mr. Al-Yasin, was a collaborative effort led by Hooman Zand and involved consulting engineers from Avers. The clip’s mixing and mastering were skillfully executed by Sheyda Taghizadeh, bringing a harmonious blend to the project’s multimedia presentation.
