Sepah Pedestrian Street Urban Design, Bandar Anzali
/ Bandar Anzali Municipality
Sepah Street, a significant historical and commercial axis located in the heart of Bandar Anzali, spans 700 meters in length and averages 7 meters in width. The street’s heritage dates back to the early Pahlavi period, featuring notable historical architecture and offering direct access to iconic landmarks such as the Clock Tower, Imam Khomeini Square, and the coastal tourist boulevard. However, despite its historical value, the increased presence of automobiles in recent years has caused congestion, safety concerns for pedestrians, noise, and visual pollution. This situation undermines the street’s historical and cultural significance.
To restore its integrity, the Bandar Anzali Municipality has initiated a new design project to transform Sepah Street into a pedestrian-friendly zone. The project involves repaving the street with durable concrete materials and eliminating the distinction between sidewalks and vehicular lanes to prioritize pedestrian movement. Vehicular access for deliveries will be limited to residents and businesses, while traffic will be controlled and restricted. The installation of urban furniture, such as lighting fixtures, seating, and waste bins, will be aligned with the color and form of the paving and historical architecture.
Key features of the project include:
Preservation and emphasis on the historical buildings along the street.
A lively public space that encourages foot traffic and revitalizes the historical axis.
Prioritization of pedestrian movement through innovative street design.
Installation of modular, efficient urban furniture.
Adequate drainage systems considering Anzali’s climate ensure proper management of surface water.
The project will mark Sepah Pedestrian Street as the first fully equipped pedestrian zone in Bandar Anzali, creating a vibrant and historically enriched public space for residents and visitors alike.
